FORDANTE at Mareham-le-Fen June 3rd

Saturday night saw the return of popular group Fordante, who were welcomed by a packed village hall. Billed as “From Puccini to The Movies’, their beautiful music covered a range of well- known light classics and some original pieces composed and arranged by musical director Phil Mountford, together with a backdrop of video scenery suitable to each piece. Consisting of violin, viola, oboe, cello and keyboard/percussion, their style and arrangements perfectly suited the music, covering nostalgic themes from Dr Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, to The Skaters Waltz, The Bolero, and indeed Puccini - O Mio Babbino Caro – while the title may not be familiar to many, the melody certainly was. Some fun was had with the Sailor’s Hornpipe and enthusiastic audience participation in the second half. These are top class musicians and it is a treat to be able to go locally and see them thanks to the Arts Council England. We hope they will return to perform for us again in the future.
